As a kid I planned to move to New York City to become a writer. I saw myself behind a black typewriter, flanked by a white Persian cat and a coterie of kooky New York neighbors like ballerinas and snake charmers.
Living, as I did, in a sparse prairie village, my New York visions were informed entirely by the books I’d read especially Harriet the Spy by Louise Fitzhugh and From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler by E.L. Konigsburg .
I have yet to make it to New York, even for a visit, but I have spent my life trying to write. I especially like to write about what I’ve read and read about what other people have read.
